Whistling reeds of grief
Sour sadness
Lime trees of gossip’s gooseberries
The currants that tell you to what curia
You belong
Languid and nerveless poppies
Peonage of peonies
Pawky paphians
Nosegay pansies dangling
From a maidenhair
With buckthorns
And hawthorns
On their backs
Jasmines
Acacias
Lilacs
And some pale roses
Crying at the grave of fruitless flowerbeds
Butterflies with tears in eyes
Locusts
Grasshoppers
Dragonflies
Some black clad bluebottles
And all the mourning caboodle
With Penates watching
From above the hearth
